We are teachers, administrators, and school board members who endorse Kristi Noem. Like Kristi, we believe you cannot underestimate the influence of a good education. Students gain confidence, neighborhoods often experience decreased crime rates, and employers get access to a skilled workforce, bringing good jobs and higher wages to our communities.
We are grateful Kristi has chosen to focus her education agenda on classroom success, and she clearly recognizes a teacher’s role in that. Not only has she laid out a plan to reward high-performing teachers, Kristi has promised to support teacher mentorship programs as well.
Additionally, we are impressed by Kristi’s pragmatic proposals to help solve resource challenges by, among other things, centralizing and standardizing purchasing. Her plans to enable the sharing of school resources, enhance long-distance learning, and improve coordination between state administrators and local school boards are all welcome steps that will achieve tangible results.
We also agree our kids are best served when schools focus on the skills young people need to pursue their ambitions. Like her, we understand a well-rounded education must include more hands-on vocational training options. We also share her call for more civics instruction in the classroom, which emphasizes the basics of good citizenship and positive participation in our democratic process. This will ensure a new generation recognizes America’s unique freedoms and opportunities as exceptional among nations.
Most of us are parents, too. We respect Kristi as a fellow parent who has been actively involved in her children’s education - from kindergarten through college graduation. We know a supportive family is the best compliment to the educational process.
As independent teachers who endorse Kristi Noem, we’re not looking for a governor who only measures education in dollars and cents. Instead, we endorse a proven, dynamic leader who will readily move South Dakota’s educational process forward, one who is dedicated to supporting good teachers, improving results in the classroom, and ensuring each of our students has the opportunity to succeed in South Dakota.
