SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Rep. Kristi Noem (R-S.D.) says she wants to make state government meetings more accessible as part of her “Sunshine Initiative.”
One idea is to use Facebook Live–as she was on today–and YouTube–to bring state meetings to the people.
“We should be using new technologies. . . by bringing these public meetings into your homes, so you have the opportunity to see what’s going on, what’s being debated, and what decisions are being made,” Noem said.”
Noem is running for the Republican nomination for governor against Marty Jackley, Lora Hubbel, and Terry LaFleur.
Since the state Supreme Court ordered the release of The Denny deal, confidential settlement agreements have been in the news.
Noem wants more restrictions on them at the state level.
“Many times, confidential settlement agreements are utilized to protect wrong-doers,” Noem said. “And they may be using your tax dollars to fund those settlements.”
In another part of her “Sunshine Initiative,” Noem says she wants a reporter shield law to help journalists uncover corruption.
